Preparing for a day-long Crossfit competition requires much more than physical ability. On Thursday, April 13th, Graham Strength & Conditioning nutrition coaches Jessica and Mariel provided members with important information about how to fuel for a successful competition.
They led attendees through a discussion of what to eat and drink the day before, the day of, and after a competition providing exact amounts of macronutrients and hydration. Many members were surprised by the number of carbohydrates needed to fuel and refuel their bodies throughout a day of strenuous activity. It was stressed that carbs are essential to providing athletes with energy to maintain activity levels, while fats are not.
The nutrition chat preceded the 2023 Graham Strength & Conditioning Lioness Games, helping athletes understand and apply the best practices for fueling. While much of the content was directed towards Crossfit-style competition, the coaches address variations for fueling for weightlifting and powerlifting meets as well as Spartan races.
